What is IOHA?

IOHA represents the global community of occupational hygienists.  The International Occupational Hygiene Association (IOHA) is an association of occupational hygiene organisations from across the world. All of these are dedicated to the discipline and application of the inherent principles of occupational hygiene.

Mission

To improve, promote and develop occupational hygiene worldwide through its member organisations, and to improve and maintain a safe and healthy working environment for all.

From its creation in 1987, IOHA has grown to more than 25 member organisations, representing over 20,000 occupational hygienists worldwide.  The IOHA conducts a wide range of activities intended to promote and develop occupational hygiene worldwide.  IOHA's Strategy Document 2007-2010 , sets out what IOHA wants to achieve by 2010.  It only highlights the areas that the Board sees as key issues for this period.  There are many other areas where IOHA is active.

Objectives

  1. To promote and maintain a high standard of ethics in the practice of occupational hygiene internationally.
  2. To improve the calibre of practitioners of occupational hygiene internationally by promoting and co-coordinating vocational training and by encouraging the further development of, and seeking to promote the status of, occupational hygiene as a profession throughout the world.
  3. To advance and maintain the high level of professional competence through recognition of national accreditation schemes.
  4. To improve, promote and develop the professional practice of occupational hygiene so as to improve and protect worker health and well being throughout the world.
  5. To promote the exchange of information about occupational hygiene among organisations and individuals internationally, e.g. through the organising of international conferences and networking through websites;
  6. To collaborate and cooperate with other societies, national and international organisations in the promotion of occupational hygiene for the protection of work force;
  7. To provide the international voice of the occupational hygiene profession through its recognition as a non-governmental organisation (NGO) by the ILO (International Labour Organisation) and WHO (World Health Organisation).

The IOHA provides an international voice of the occupational hygiene profession through its recognition as a non-governmental organisation (NGO) by the ILO (International Labour Organisation) and WHO (World Health Organisation).
